Joint Press Release
Geretsried. Last Wednesday, the heat supply contract between Isar Loisach Naturwärme GmbH (ILN), a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Geretsried, and Eavor Erdwärme Geretsried GmbH was formally signed at the Geretsried town hall after the contract was approved by the board of Stadtwerke Geretsried and the Geretsried town council.
Mayor Michael Müller emphasized the significance of this contract for the people of Geretsried: “The use of geothermal energy is an essential cornerstone for the success of the energy transition for our region and for Bavaria. It can provide us with a reliable supply of climate-friendly heat at the regional level. Initially, not every household in Geretsried will be able to connect to the district heating network. The backbone is formed by large properties such as schools, businesses ,and large residential areas.”
The contract provides for the supply of up to 81,200 MWh/a of heat to Isar Loisach Naturwärme GmbH. Jan Dühring, Chairman of the Stadtwerke and Managing Director of Isar Loisach Naturwärme GmbH: “Developing the infrastructure needed to use geothermal energy is a challenge for our new company, our municipal utilities and the city as a whole, and one that we are eager to take on and tackle energetically.” The district heating network of ILN will be built in six stages, depending on the progress of drilling from 2025/2026, and will extend from the industrial park in Gelting to Geretsried-Stein.
Daniel Mölk, Managing Director of Eavor Erdwärme Geretsried GmbH: “This contract marks a further milestone in a very important project for Geretsried and its residents. With this project, we are writing a new chapter in the energy transition. Here, we are showing how Eavor-LoopTM technology is making a real game changer for the heating sector a reality.” Geretsried will thus become a role model for municipalities on the road to climate neutrality.“
